PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s security forces killed at least 10 terrorists on Thursday while successfully thwarting an attack on a security checkpost in the Jandola area of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, security sources said.
According to security sources, the attack was timely and effectively repelled by the Pakistan Army. During the attack, one of the terrorists detonated himself at the gate of the military camp.
Police officials told the media that heavy firing was heard following a loud explosion in Jandola.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the security forces for thwarting the attack and eliminating the terrorists.
He emphasised that the nation stands in solidarity with the security forces in their mission to eradicate terrorism from the country.
“We salute the security forces for their exemplary service and commitment to safeguarding our country,” he stated.
The attack came only a day after security forces killed all 33 attackers who attacked a passenger train in Balochistan and held passengers hostage in the mountainous region.
The militants blew up the rail tracks and opened fire on the Jaffar Express as it made its way to Peshawar from Quetta, the capital of mineral-rich Balochistan, taking hostage several of the 440 passengers aboard.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) had claimed responsibility for the attack, in which 21 hostages were killed and four security troops martyred.
