KYIV: At least 11 people, including five children, were killed in a Russian missile strike on Saturday in the eastern Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk. The regional governor reported that eight others were wounded when Russian forces targeted the area with S-300 missiles, leaving a devastating impact on the community.

Vadim Filashkin, the head of the Donetsk region, conveyed the grim news on Telegram, stating that the first strike occurred in Pokrovsk and Rivne within the Myrnograd community. Photographs released by Filashkin showed rescue workers navigating through the debris left in the wake of the missile attack, which resulted in damage to six houses.

The town of Pokrovsk, with a pre-war population of 60,000, had previously experienced a deadly bombardment in August, claiming nine lives and injuring 82 persons. The latest strike exacerbates the ongoing challenges faced by the residents, marking a tragic recurrence of violence in a community that lies approximately fifty kilometers (30 miles) from the front line of the conflict.
