BEIRUT: A brazen insurgent assault targeted a military position in northwest Syria on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of 11 soldiers and leaving 20 others wounded, opposition activists and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

The attack unfolded shortly after Russian and Syrian warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on the final major rebel stronghold in the northwestern province of Idlib, as well as parts of Aleppo. These airstrikes led to the demise of several insurgents.
