1,200MW Nuclear Power Plant Under Construction with Cooperation of China

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Dr Raja Ali has said that another nuclear power plant of 1,200 MW is under construction with the cooperation of China, state run news agency Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

According to the APP, the PAEC chief shared his thoughts at an event organized by China to commemorate 40 years of its partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The event held on the sidelines of IAEA General Conference. Dr Raja Ali Raza Anwar was invited as one of the guest speakers, alongside IAEA DG Rafael Grossi.

Dr Raja has highlighted that Pakistan was safely operating around six nuclear power plants constituting a total electricity generation capacity of 3,530 MW. All these plants were set up in cooperation with China.

He also extended heartfelt felicitations to China on completing 40 years as an IAEA member nation. The head observed that the Pakistan-China friendship has blossomed into an all-weather strategic cooperative partnership and that the long-lasting friendship was a legacy of our forefathers and cherished by every generation of Pakistanis.

He added, “As we are gathered here to talk regarding peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology, I would like to mention our long-standing cooperation with China in the sector of nuclear energy.” Pakistan looks forward to further expand this cooperation with our Chinese friends in other sectors including agriculture, food, human health, water resource management and industrial applications. He concluded his speech lauding the active role being played by China and Pakistan at the IAEA.
