SAO PAULO: Local officials said on Saturday that a residential building collapse in Brazil killed fourteen people.
14 Killed in Building Collapse in Brazil
The incident took place in the outskirts of Recife in the northeastern state of Pernambuco. Local media reported that the building collapsed due to the heavy rains in Brazil. In a statement, civil defence authorities said that three persons managed to survive the incident, whose cause remains unclear.
Earlier, officials reported that eight people were killed in the area. Governor Raquel Lyra of Pernambuco expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of people in the incident and vowed the government would try its best to support the families of the victims. Recife, a city with about 1.5 million people, has been grappling with heavy rain in recent days.
