HANOI, Vietnam: A fire that ripped through a small apartment building in central Hanoi killed at least 14 people and injured three others, state media reported on Friday.

It was unclear how many people were in the apartment at the time of the fire. The flames were extinguished after an hour.

The building is located in an alley two meters wide, with the top floors of the building being rented out, VNA said.

The first floor was allegedly used for the sale and repair of e-bikes.

A neighbour, who declined to give her name, told media she heard “an explosion like cracks”.

“I thought there had been a fight or something had hit the window. I ran downstairs and saw the fire.
