ISLAMABAD: More than 100 Pakistani legislators have written to the country’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, expressing deep concerns over the alleged interference by 62 US Congressmen in Pakistan’s internal matters, local media reported on Wednesday.
A letter signed by around 160 members of Pakistan’s Parliament, including Naveed Qamar, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Asiya Naz Tanoli, Mustafa Kamal, and Khalid Magsi, has been sent to PM Shehbaz Sharif, according to media reports.
The MPs have expressed deep concern over a letter from US Congressmen to US President Joe Biden that called for the release of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, according to local media reports.
The MPs expressed concerns about the founder of PTI, accusing him of introducing political violence and making criminal threats against state institutions.
They have also highlighted the incidents of May 9, 2023, quoting them as examples of his instigation of riots and vandalism. The letter also referenced past examples, where they claim the PTI Founder had paralyzed the country. The letter stated that the PTI leader has allegedly encouraged unrest in Lahore and Islamabad to incite violence.
The letter added that such support from foreign MPs disrupts the judicial process in Pakistan, as it comments on the current cases.
