19th Cholistan Rally Inaugurated with Spectacular Opening Ceremony

BAHAWALPUR: Commissioner Dr. Ehtesham Anwar of Bahawalpur Division lauded the Cholistan Desert Rally as a premier motorsports festival, remarking on its role in projecting a positive image of Pakistan globally.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 19th TDCP International Cholistan Desert Rally and Cultural Festival at Bahawal Gymkhana Bahawalpur, he emphasized how the event serves as a platform to showcase Pakistani culture and traditions worldwide.

Dr. Anwar highlighted the rally’s extensive route of over 500 kilometers, reassuring attendees of the comprehensive security arrangements provided by Pakistani police and military forces. He underscored the rally’s significance as the largest in South East Asia, attributing its success to the region’s enchanting landscapes and vibrant cultural offerings, which draw tourists from across the globe each year.

Moreover, Dr. Anwar announced plans to internationalize the event further by introducing prize money in dollars for foreign participants. Managing Director Humaira Akram of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab echoed Dr. Anwar’s sentiments, stressing the rally’s pivotal role in fostering social and economic growth in the region.

She noted the diverse participation, including drivers from Saudi Arabia, the UK, Afghanistan, Iran, and the USA, alongside enhancements in the women’s category. The ceremony featured the unveiling of the Winner Trophy and a documentary screening, shedding light on the rally’s anthem and showcasing the rich history and culture of the Cholistan Desert and Bahawalpur’s architectural heritage through cultural performances and multimedia presentations.

Shields were distributed to rally organizers and participants, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa, Project Director Brigadier Naveed Iqbal of DHA Bahawalpur, District Police Officer Syed Muhammad Abbas, officials, participants, and racing enthusiasts alike.
