200 Pakistani Devotees to Attend Amir Khusrau’s Urs in India

ISLAMABAD: At least 200 devotees from Pakistan will attend the 719th annual Urs of Hazrat Amir Khusrau (RA) to be held from May 4 to 11, 2023, in New Delhi, India.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony said that this year the ministry received 989 applications against the capacity of 200 people to travel to India.

The spokesperson said that Additional Secretary Religious Affairs Syed Atta-ur-Rehman conducted the computerized balloting to select applicants.

He said all applicants could check their application status on the official website of the ministry of religious affairs www.mora.gov.pk.

“Last year, 110 devotees attended the Hazrat Amir Khusrau’s Urs and laid the traditional ‘chaadar’ on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan, besides offering prayers for the prosperity and development of Pakistan”, the spokesperson said.

He is known for his love for humanity as a means of realizing true love with the Creator and has ardent followers all around South Asia, including Pakistan. The pilgrims turn up in large numbers from across the world each year on the occasion of his annual Urs.

The visit of Pakistani devotees is covered under the framework of the 1974 India-Pakistan protocol on visits to religious places. No visits could take place in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
