ISLAMABAD: At least 19 people including children and women were killed due to heavy rain in Pakistan. Rescue officials said that at least 11 people were killed following rainwater entered the basement of a house in Dara Adam Khel area of Peshawar. The officials said that rainwater submerged the basement of the house of a local named Amjad, which resulted in the death of 11 people.
Local residents said that 8 people lost their lives in Tharparkar in different incidents of lightning strikes. Similarly, three people were killed in Rawalpindi due to heavy rain in the city. Officials said that many low-lying areas were inundated in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as monsoon currents lashed the twin cities.
In Ziarat, Duki, Sanjawi, Loralai, Harnai, and Quetta, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms has broken the intensity of the heatwave, leading to a flood-like situation in the nullahs and streams.
Several districts in Punjab, including Vehari, Jhang, Mailsi, Burewala, Chichawatni, Khushab, Sargodha, Toba Tek Singh, Rahim Yar Khan, Jhelum, Bhakkar, Mandi Bahauddin, Sheikhupura and Hafizabad, have recorded varying intensities of rainfall.
Local officials said that heavy monsoon rains have also caused severe disruption in Azad Kashmir including areas such as the main Mirpur-Kotli road has been blocked from both sides due to a landslide. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in the Kashmir, Hazara, Malakand, and Gujranwala Division regions.
NDMA Issues Alert Amid Heavy Rainfall
The NDMA has issued directives to relevant departments to take precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impacts of flooding across the country. The public is advised to avoid floodwaters and seek safe locations away from flood-prone areas. The disaster authority has launched an app with the name “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” which is available on Google Play Store and iOS to keep citizens updates.
