25 Killed, 17 Injured in Road Accident in Mexico

MEXICO: Police said on Wednesday that as many as 25 people were killed in a road accident in the southern state of Oaxaca in Mexico.

AFP reported that the accident took place when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in Oaxaca. Police officials confirmed that 25 people were killed and 17 seriously wounded in the accident.

The officials said that the bus was heading for Santiago de Yosondua. In a statement, Oaxaca State Governor Salomon Jara said, “We express deep regret over the road accident that took place in Magdalena Penasco”. He expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims.

“Our officials and rescue teams are working on the rescue operation and will provide all types of support to the wounded people,” he said.

Police images released via social media showed the top half of the passenger bus completely destroyed, while rescue officials searched through the wreckage.
