25 Killed in Market Shelling Near Donetsk City of Russian-Occupied Ukraine

KYIV: At least 25 people were killed, and 20 others injured in shelling incident on the outskirts of Donetsk, a city in Russian-occupied Ukraine on Sunday, local officials reported. The attack occurred at a market in the suburb of Tekstilshchik. Alexei Kulemzin, the city’s Russian-installed mayor, said that the shells responsible for the tragedy were fired by the Ukrainian military, The Associated Press reported on Sunday.

Kyiv has not provided any official comment on the incident. Emergency services are actively engaged at the scene, working to manage the aftermath of the shelling, as stated by Denis Pushilin, the head of the Russian-installed authorities in Donetsk.

Fire Incident at Chemical Transport Terminal in Russian Port

Meanwhile, a fire broke out at a chemical transport terminal in Russia’s Ust-Luga port following two explosions. Regional officials reported that Ukrainian drones attacked the port, causing a gas tank to explode. The port is located 165 kilometers southwest of St. Petersburg and is operated by Novatek, Russia’s second-largest natural gas producer.

Yuriy Zapalatskiy, the head of Russia’s Kingisepp region, where the port is situated, assured that there were no casualties but declared the district on high alert. Reports from local media outlet Fontanka suggested that two drones were detected heading towards St. Petersburg on Sunday morning but were redirected towards the Kingisepp region.

The Russian Ministry of Defense did not report any drone activity in the Kingisepp area in its daily briefing. However, it did confirm the downing of four Ukrainian drones in Russia’s Smolensk region and two more in the Oryol and Tula regions. Russian officials had previously confirmed the downing of a Ukrainian drone on the outskirts of St. Petersburg on Thursday.
