ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the 26th Constitutional Amendment, passed by parliament with a two-thirds majority, as a significant step toward Pakistan’s economic and political stability.
During a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, he emphasized that the amendment would play a crucial role in providing timely and effective justice to the people by establishing constitutional benches. This reform is aimed at reducing delays in legal proceedings, ultimately ensuring quicker access to justice for the citizens.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that the amendment is an achievement of the vision set out in the Charter of Democracy. He commended the collective efforts of political parties, both within the government and opposition, for their input and consultation, noting that the amendment reflects a unified national spirit.
In addition to discussing the constitutional reform, the Prime Minister praised various institutions, including the Foreign Office, Ministry of Information, and law enforcement agencies, for their successful handling of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting. He expressed optimism about Pakistan’s growing international image and its strengthened bilateral relations following the visit of the Chinese Premier.
Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with Pakistan’s improving economic indicators, pointing out that inflation had fallen to 6.9% and that the policy rate had declined, with further reductions expected.
