ISLAMABAD: The 28th Annual Conference of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centre began at Centre for International Peace and Stability, National University of Science and Technology in Islamabad on Monday, Radio Pakistan reported.
Pakistan is hosting the five-day Conference, for the first time, officially commenced with the inauguration of a new CIPS building by Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir.
Under Secretary General Department of Peace Operations, Jean Pierre Lacroix, Foreign Sectary of Pakistan, United Nation’s Police Advisor, Acting Deputy Military Advisor, and Rector NUST, also accompanied the Chief Guest during the opening ceremony of the conference.
The Army Chief in his keynote address stressed that global peace today is confronted with evolving threats and challenges. He added that despite the numerous peacekeeping endeavours by the UN and other organizations, the plight of innocent Kashmiris and Palestinians serves as a strong reminder that still a lot needs to be done.

Guest of Honour Jean Pierre Lacroix in his remarks, acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions to UN Peacekeeping Operations. He thanked Pakistan for hosting the 28th Annual Conference of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centre.
Earlier on arrival, the COAS was received by Inspector General Training and Evaluation, Lieutenant General Fayyaz Hussain Shah.
