COLOMBO: The second Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka saw rain disrupting play on day two, after Abdullah Shafique and skipper Babar Azam guided Pakistan to a 12-run lead. When rain interrupted the match, the tourists were at 178-2, with Shafique batting on 87 and Azam on 28, building a partnership of 57 runs.

Despite the gloomy skies, Pakistan resumed their innings from 145-2 and adopted an aggressive approach against the Sri Lankan bowlers. Shafique and Azam struck a series of boundaries, putting the pressure on the hosts after they were bowled out for 166 in the opening session on day one.

Unfortunately, only 43 minutes of play were possible before the rain arrived, forcing officials to call lunch, tea, and eventually stumps for the day, as the entire ground was covered. The weather forecast predicts more rain for day three, putting Pakistan’s chances of clinching the series in jeopardy.

Pakistan’s Dominance Against Sri Lanka

Shafique’s impressive knock of 87, comprising eight fours and two sixes in 131 balls, showcased Pakistan’s dominance in the match. Azam, who started the day at eight runs, displayed an attacking approach by hitting a six and two fours in the ten overs played before the rain interruption.

Pakistan’s bowlers had earlier combined effectively to dismiss Sri Lanka in the second session of day one after the hosts opted to bat first. Shafique and Shan Masood’s 108-run partnership for the second wicket further strengthened Pakistan’s position, leaving Sri Lanka on the back foot with their aggressive gameplay.

As the rain continues to play spoilsport, Pakistan will rely on their aggressive strategy to maintain their lead in the two-match series, where they currently hold a 1-0 advantage.
