4.4 Magnitude Quake Jolts Islamabad, Other Parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted Pakistan’s capital Islamabad and other parts of the South Asian country in the early hours of Friday, local media reported.

As per media reports tremors were also felt in several areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Citizens came out of their houses in panic and started reciting verses from the Holy Quran, local media reported. However, no loss of life and property was reported from any area of the country due to quake.

4.4 Magnitude Quake Jolts Islamabad, Other Parts of Pakistan

National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad said that the epicenter of the quake was located in the Southwestern Kashmir at the depth of 11 km.

Earlier, a 3.2 magnitude quake hit Islamabad and surrounding regions on Wednesday. The epicenter of the quake was Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan, and its originated around 25 kilometers deep, local media reported. Similarly, on December 18, Islamabad and its surrounding parts were rattled by a magnitude 5.8 quake, confirmed by National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad.
