DARCHULA, Nepal: Far-western Nepal was shaken on Monday by an earthquake with a 4.8 magnitude and an epicenter in the Darchula district of Sudurpaschim province.

The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre said that the earthquake struck at 9:26 a.m., with its epicenter in the district around the Nepal-India border.

On October 3, one person died, and 27 others were injured after earthquakes shook various districts of the Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

As the Tibetan and Indian tectonic plates collide on a ridge and move closer to one another by two meters every century, pressure builds up and is released through earthquakes, which are frequent in Nepal.
