BEIJING: Over 40,000 inbound and outbound passengers at the Khunjerab Pass have been recorded since the passenger customs clearance resumed on April 3, 2023.
The Khunjerab Pass is situated in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of northwest China. According to Xinhua, this Pass is a vital land port on the border between China and Pakistan, a major trading hub between the two countries, and a key entry point to South Asia and Europe.
The announcement that the Khunjerab pass will be open year-round was made jointly by China and Pakistan during the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. This development is anticipated to have a significant impact on boosting economic and cultural contacts between the two countries. —APP
