TEHRAN: An earthquake measuring 5.5 at the Richter Scale on Tuesday struck Southern part of Iran at 0510 GMT, the US Geological Survey said.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 27.73 degrees north latitude and 56.13 degrees east longitude with epicenter 62 km away from Bandar Abbas.

The tremors were felt in Bandar Abbas, Hijabed, Qeshm, Minab, Khasab, Musandam Governorate, Oman, and other nearby areas.
There were no reports of damage and injuries due to the earthquake.
Four major tectonic plates (Arabia, Eurasia, India, and Africa) and one smaller tectonic block (Anatolia) cause seismicity and tectonics in the Middle East and surrounding areas.
The Iranian Plate is a small tectonic plate covers Iran and Afghanistan, and parts of Iraq and Pakistan.
