DUSHANBE: A 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted eastern Tajikistan on Thursday early morning, the US Geological Survey said.
The earthquake struck around 5:37 am local time (0037 GMT) at a depth of around 12.7 miles (20.5 km).
USGS estimated that the earthquake would expose very little or no population to landslides.
Epicenter of quake appears to be in Gorno-Badakhshan
Its epicenter appeared to be in Gorno-Badakhshan, a semi-autonomous eastern region that borders China and Afghanistan.
A 5.0-magnitude aftershock hit the area nearly 20 minutes after the initial earthquake.
