75th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka Celebrated in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The 75th anniversary of the Independence of the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka from four and a half centuries of foreign colonial rule was celebrated in Pakistan.

The celebrations were held at a local hotel in Islamabad under the auspicious of the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad.

Pakistan’s Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training, Rana Tanveer Hussain, was the chief guest on the occasion. The chief guest performed the cake cutting and lit the traditional lamp on the occasion.

Sri Lankan High Commissioner Vice Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama welcomed the guest on the occasion.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, diplomats, and other dignitaries were present on the occassion of cake cutting at a local hotel in Islamabad.

National anthems of Pakistan and Sri Lanka were played on the occasion.

Sri Lanka’s independence is celebrated annually on February 4.

In his national day message, Sri Lankan High Commissioner extended warm congratulations and sincere greetings to fellow citizens, both in Sri Lanka as well as spread across all parts of the world.

“Today, we commemorate our nation’s journey to regain our freedom and the inalienable rights of our people from foreign political, economic, and socio-cultural subjugation. We recall with reverence and profound gratitude the dedication, sacrifice, determination, and struggle of our gallant forefathers to liberate our motherland,” he said.
