ISLAMABAD: Nearly 7,700 flights are scheduled to carry pilgrims from different countries to and from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the Hajj season.

Nearly 1.7 million seats have been allocated on these Hajj flights due to land at 6 airports in the kingdom.

They are the Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Medina, the Airport of King Abdulaziz in Jeddah, the Prince Abdulmohssen Airport in Yanbu, Taif Airport, King Fahd Airport in Dammam, and the King Khaled Airport in Riyadh, according to Saudi media.

The first flights carrying Hajj pilgrims from Bangladesh and Malaysia left Sunday for Saudi Arabia as part of a Saudi plan to provide facilities to the Muslim pilgrims, dubbed the Makkah Route Initiative.

Two flights landed in Medina

Two planes with 650 Malaysian hajj pilgrims on board landed at the Prince Muhammad Hammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Medina late Sunday.

The authorities in Kingdom have said that there would be no limits on the number of Hajj pilgrims from around the world for the Hajj season, reversing earlier limits prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the past 2 years, Saudi Arabia downsized the number of pilgrims allowed to perform the Hajj to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Nearly 2.5 million Muslims used to perform Hajj annually in pre-pandemic times.
