ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday restricted the authorities from shifting Iman Mazari, a human rights lawyer, out of Islamabad while she is under arrest.

A divisional bench comprising Justice Mian Gul Hassan and Justice Aurangzeb heard Imaan’s plea requesting details of all cases against her, whether disclosed or undisclosed.

Her mother, former federal human rights minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari appeared in the court along with her legal team, Qaiser Imam and Suleman Akram Raja.

The petitioner’s counsel said it was necessary to submit such a plea because Imaan was the target of two cases involving terrorism and sedition. The counsels told the judge that she was detained in both cases and freed on bail, but as soon as she was released from Adiyala jail, the well-known human rights advocate was detained in a third case.

The bench noted that the country was going through some challenging circumstances. “Imaan Mazari was in the courtroom, and she assured us that she would ask her mother to control her tongue. Now, Imaan did not hold her words, said Justice Aurangzeb. In defending the Constitution and the courts, he continued that 2023 is the darkest in our history.
