ISLAMABAD: The World Intellectual Property Organization has registered a Geographical Indication of Chaunsa and Sindhri varieties of mangoes, which have been declared as the products of Pakistan.

Vice President of Sindh Abadgar Board Mehmood Nawaz Shah said on Sunday that the important milestone had been achieved thanks to the support and cooperation of IPO Pakistan.

He said that a meeting was also held in this connection via a video link, attended by IPO Pakistan’s head Farrukh Aamil, Mohsin Bullo of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Consultant WIPO Noor Asifa, and officials of SAB. Mehmood Nawaz Shah said they discussed the export-related matters and benefits of the geographical indication.

The meeting was informed that no other nation could lay a claim on Chaunsa and Sindhri varieties of mango other than Pakistan. Mehmood Nawaz Shah hoped that the registration would also help improve the mangos’ export.
