Kuwait Reaffirms Firm Support for Palestinians

CAIRO: Kuwait’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has reaffirmed Kuwait’s solid support for the Palestinian people and efforts to protect their rights, Arab media reported on Wednesday.

His remarks came during a meeting with Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner general of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, that was held Wednesday on the sidelines of the 160th meeting of Arab League ministers for foreign affairs in Cairo.

During his interaction with Kuwait’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, the UN official also reviewed the humanitarian programs his agency provides to help Palestinian refugees worldwide. He also lauded Kuwait for its support of the Palestinians and commended the country for its charities to aid efforts for Palestinian refugees.

Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the work of UNRWA, which he said plays a key role in providing critical services to refugees. Kuwait had provided $12 million to help fund the UN agency’s work, officials said.
