KABUL: The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan has confirmed the return of approximately 100 Afghan migrants from Iran, as concerns over Afghan migration continue to mount.

On September 7th, the Afghan Ministry made an announcement on its social media platform, X, stating that around 871 Afghan migrants had re-entered the country via the Islam Qala border. However, it remains unclear whether these refugees were forcibly deported or chose to return voluntarily.

According to the ministry’s report, these returning individuals have been referred to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) office to receive food and non-food assistance.

Expulsion of Afghan Migrants from Iran

This development comes as the expulsion and return of Afghan migrants from Iran have been on the rise. Earlier, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan reported the return of 2,289 Afghan migrants from Iran.

Many of the returnees have cited the lack of job opportunities and deteriorating economic conditions in neighboring countries like Iran as their primary reasons for returning to Afghanistan.

The situation in Afghanistan has become increasingly challenging since the Taliban assumed control of the country. Factors such as persecution, security risks, economic decline, and soaring unemployment rates have contributed to a significant outflow of people seeking refuge and stability elsewhere.
