China-Pakistan Gandhara Heritage Exhibition Held in Lanzhou

BEIJING: As part of the continued cultural exchanges between Pakistan and China, “Gandhara Heritage along the Silk Road: A Joint China-Pakistan Exhibition” was unveiled at the Palace Museum in Lanzhou, Gansu Province.

This is the continuation of the same exhibition that was arranged at the Palace Museum, Beijing earlier this year.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by top officials from Pakistan and China, including Zhao Jinyun, Vice Governor of Gansu Province, Wang Xudong, Director of the Palace Museum, Humaira Ahmed, Secretary of National Heritage and Culture Division, Pakistan and Bilal Mahmood Chaudhary, Deputy Head of Mission, Pakistan Embassy, Beijing, according to Pakistan Embassy on Monday.

The exhibition, showcasing 170 artifacts from Pakistan and thirty from Palace Museum, marked another milestone in cultural exchange programs between the two nations.

Pakistani Artifacts

The Pakistani artifacts featured in the event were early Buddhist sculptures, Buddha stories, renowned Gandhara stone carvings, Jataka tales, stupa architectural components, and intricate gold, silverware, and jewelry.

Lauding the initiative, Humaira Ahmed termed the exhibition a landmark platform enabling the audience in China to explore the great Gandhara civilization’s treasure.

She lauded the Chinese side over the efforts to preserve and showcase the Gandhara artifacts that signified common heritage.

Bilal Mahmood Chaudhary highlighted the exhibition’s important role in showcasing the historical cultural exchanges that existed between Pakistan and China along the ancient Silk Road.

He called the Gandhara Civilization a great source for promoting mutual understanding, bilateral cooperation, and people-to-people connectivity between two nations.
