First ‘Diplomats’ Discourse’ Highlights BRI Significance

ISLAMABAD: The First Diplomats’ Discourse on “Regional Connectivity: In Asian Context” emphasized the Belt and Road Initiative’s (BRI) importance and the abundant opportunities it offers to participating countries.

This event took place at the Foreign Service Academy. It was attended by several foreign Ambassadors, diplomats, think-tank representatives, serving and former Pakistani Ambassadors, and Foreign Service of Pakistan officers in training, along with ASEAN diplomats currently undergoing training at the Academy.

The event, held in collaboration with COMSATS University Islamabad and Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), featured an opening session with Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, the recently arrived Ambassador of China, Jiang Ziadong, and the Director General of the Foreign Service Academy, Ambassador Mazhar Javed.

Two panel discussions delved into the topics of BRI and ASEAN, and Pakistan’s role as a hub for regional connectivity. Prominent participants included Ambassadors of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in Pakistan, Pakistan’s Ambassadors to the Philippines, Thailand, UAE, Oman, and Azerbaijan, as well as former Ambassador of Pakistan to China, Naghmana Hashmi, Indonesian former Ambassador Muhammad Hassan.

The speakers emphasized the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative and its potential benefits for participating countries. They also highlighted Pakistan’s potential to serve as a hub for regional connectivity. Discussions encompassed the progress made in this direction and the necessary steps to further enhance regional connectivity.
