BMG Sweeps KCCI’s Annual Elections with Landslide Victory

KARACHI: In a resounding victory, the Businessmen Group (BMG) secured a landslide win in the Karachi Chamber’s Annual Elections 2023. All 15 BMG candidates emerged victorious with an overwhelming margin, garnering a total of 43,485 votes. Their sole opponent, contesting for a single seat, received only 315 votes.

This historic win marked the first time that the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) introduced electronic voting alongside manual voting. The move was widely appreciated by KCCI members, with e-voting proving to be both convenient and faster. A remarkable 38,285 votes were cast through electronic voting, while 5,505 votes were cast manually.

Announcing the election results, members of the Election Commission, Mian Abrar Ahmed, Agha Shahab Ahmed Khan, and Abdul Nasir Rangoonwala, revealed that Tanveer Barry secured the highest number of votes, totaling 2,917. He was followed closely by Muhammad Iqbal Khamisani, Amir Iqbal Naviwala, Shoaib Sultan, Ibrahim Mustafa Ahmed Shamsi, Muhammad Farooq Zahid, Waris Zia, Ahmed Azeem Alvi, Sohail Shamim Firpo, Muhammad Aslam Nathani, Atif Tariq, Chaudhry Amir Abdullah, Muhammad Shoaib, Aslam Pakhali, and Sheikh Waqas Anjum. In contrast, the opponent, Abdul Rauf, obtained 315 votes.

Chairman of the Businessmen Group (BMG), Zubair Motiwala, along with Vice Chairmen Haroon Farooki, Anjum Nisar, and Jawed Bilwani, General Secretary AQ Khalil, and President of KCCI Mohammed Tariq Yousuf, extended their congratulations to the newly elected Managing Committee Members. They expressed their gratitude to Karachi’s business and industrial community for their trust and confidence in the BMG.

BMG leadership praised the supporters from various industrial town associations, trade associations, and commercial markets across the city. They expressed optimism that the newly elected BMG representatives would continue to champion the cause of the business and industrial community while upholding the principle of public service, which is at the core of BMG’s mission.

Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala noted, “BMG has been consistently winning all elections since 1998, often unopposed, and this 26-year streak is a testament to our commitment to public service and the overwhelming support we receive from the business and industrial community.”

KCCI Voters Dedication During Polling

Motiwala also acknowledged the challenges faced during the election process, including traffic disruptions caused by a sit-in at Shaheen Complex. Despite these obstacles, many KCCI voters showed their dedication by walking to the polling venue to cast their votes in support of BMG.

Additionally, he commended the tireless efforts of BMG members who conducted extensive campaigns to mobilize KCCI members to vote in favor of BMG candidates. The flawless organization of KCCI’s Annual Elections by the office bearers, Secretary General, and staff was also widely praised by voters.

The Office Bearers elections are scheduled to take place on September 30, 2023, followed by the Annual General Meeting on the same day.
