ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has declared a special 90-day sentence remission for prisoners on account of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

The announced remission will apply to specific groups of prisoners: males above the age of 65, females over 60 who have completed one-third of their sentences, and individuals under the age of 18 who have served one-third of their prison terms.
This remission was approved under Article 45 of the Constitution, as confirmed by the President’s Office. It’s important to note that this reduction in sentence will not be extended to prisoners convicted of heinous crimes such as murder, espionage, and anti-state activities.
Additionally, those convicted of offenses like adultery, theft, dacoity, kidnapping, and terrorism will not benefit from this remission. The remission will not apply to individuals involved in financial crimes or those who have caused losses to the national exchequer. —APP
