WASHINGTON:  General Mark Milley stepped down Friday as the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff with a parting swipe at Donald Trump, adding no soldier ever swore an oath to serve a ” dictator.”

The spectacular rebuke from General Mark Milley on his last day as the top US Army official showed the way the US Army has been dragged into the volatile political arena since Trump’s administration.

At a military ceremony for his retirement — attended by US President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin – General Milley did not name former President Trump, but there was no doubt regarding the target of his barb. He said that they don’t take an oath to a queen or king or a dictator,” Milley said.

General Milley will be replaced as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by General Charles “CQ” Brown. The development comes as President Biden launched a furious personal attack on “extremist” Donald Trump Thursday, blaming his likely 2024 rival for plotting to undermine the American constitution if he wins the presidential election next year.

Biden said in a speech in the battlefield state of Arizona that Trump was driven by “vengeance and vindictiveness”, and he asked the US citizens to stand up for democracy in the country.
