Saudi Environment Minister Al-Fadley Inaugurates ‘Innovation Driven Desalination’ Conference

JEDDAH: Eng Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, Saudi Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, inaugurated on Saturday the activities of the second edition of the “Innovation Driven Desalination” conference, held by the Saline Water Conversion Corporation.

The conference is taking place from 30 September to 3 October in Jeddah with the participation of international academics, specialists, and experts, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

On the margins of the conference’s second edition, the minister honored the winners of the Global Innovation Award in Water Desalination, in which 105 participants from over twenty-seven nations, represented research centers, entrepreneurs, universities, and employees of companies in the international water desalination industry.

Eng. Al-Fadley congratulated the winners who have demonstrated their eligibility and competence for the award, which achieved huge success in its first edition.

The minister said that this aligns with the comprehensive water strategy that integrates the directions, legislation, policies, and practices in the water sector.

Sudi Leadership’s Support Appreciated

Furthermore, he lauded the wise leadership’s support for the water sector. Eng. Al-Fadley emphasized Saudi Arabia’s leading role in addressing regional and global water issues, appreciating the announcement by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman regarding the establishment of the Global Water Organization based in Riyadh.

He said that this initiative contributes to enhancing cooperation among countries and stimulating collective responses to water challenges. SWCC governor, Eng. Abdullah Al-Abdulkarim, commended the participants in the award for their contribution to the water sector’s goals.

He also said that this support aligns with initiatives and efforts that promote innovation it in the field of desalination. He added that it reflects the commitment of the SWCC to promote and support innovation, offering a helping role that contributes to stimulating innovative projects as part of its social responsibility.

He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ensuring sustainable water resources, citing the corporation’s global pioneering status in producing 11.5 million cubic meters of water on a daily basis, making it the largest producer of water worldwide.
