GAZA CITY: The Gaza Strip, already enduring Israeli bombardment and siege, plunged into darkness on Wednesday as its sole power plant shut down due to a lack of fuel, announced the Palestinian enclave’s electricity authority. The shutdown occurred at 2:00 pm (1100 GMT), leaving Gaza’s residents without electricity and worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Jalal Ismail, the head of the electricity authority, confirmed the closure after earlier warnings about the dwindling fuel supply. Israel has imposed a “complete siege” on Gaza, intensifying airstrikes on residential and commercial buildings resulting in martyrdom of more than 1100 innocent Palestinian civilians.

Worsening Humanitarian Conditions in Gaza

The Israeli energy minister, Israel Katz, stated, “We’ve decided to cut the supply of water, electricity, and fuel, and now their local power plant has collapsed, and there’s no electricity in Gaza.” Katz further said that Israel’s siege will continue despite international concerns about the worsening humanitarian conditions in the densely populated enclave.

The dire situation in Gaza underscores the urgent need for international intervention to address the escalating crisis and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian population caught in the airstrikes.
