ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Aneeq Ahmed, on Saturday revealed that the government is likely to reduce expenses for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage in light of rising inflation.

Speaking at a dinner reception organized by the Pakistan Business Group Organization (PBGO) Punjab Chapter, Minister Ahmed indicated that the new Hajj policy would be announced by November 15.

He underscored the consistent adherence to the Hajj Policy since 2004, emphasizing the importance of respecting and implementing Saudi government directives. Ahmed highlighted a significant achievement, revealing that the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage would cost less than Rs10,75000, compared to the previous expense of Rs11,75000.

Govt to Introduce 20-day Hajj Programme

The minister assured pilgrims of maximum convenience and comfort during the Hajj season, including affordable internet data packages with a private network SIM available throughout their 45-day stay in Saudi Arabia. The ministry also introduced a shorter 20-day Hajj programme to accommodate pilgrims with time constraints.

In a bid to streamline the process, Ahmed announced that prospective pilgrims paying their Hajj dues in dollars would be exempt from the balloting process. Additionally, each pilgrim will receive a suitcase with a QR code for secure tracking of both luggage and individuals throughout the entire Hajj operation.

The minister concluded by outlining the ministry’s initiative to maintain discipline among female pilgrims, providing scarves (hijabs) adorned with the national flag on their backs.
