WASHINGTON: The United States expressed deep concern on Thursday over the attack on Jordanian medics in their field hospital in Gaza.

Jordan’s foreign ministry confirmed that seven staff members were wounded in the Israeli shelling of the facility.

Reacting to the incident, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that Jordan is the US’s critical ally, stating that its essential role in the conflict must be safeguarded.

Sullivan expressed deep concern over the injuries sustained by Jordanian medical personnel in Gaza and said that they are grateful to the professionals providing crucial care to Palestinians.

Sufyan Al-Qudah, spokesman for Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned the incident, stating, “Israel’s exposing the hospital and its staff to danger during its bombing of our Palestinian brothers is an unacceptable and condemnable crime and clearly violates international law.”

He added that the government awaits the results of an investigation initiated by the Armed Forces-Arab Army to take necessary legal and political actions against the crime.

On Wednesday, Jordan announced its intention to conduct an investigation into the shelling near the Jordanian field hospital, as reported by the Jordan News Agency (Petra).
