WESTON, Massachusetts: In a 2024 election campaign fundraiser, US President Joe Biden, aged 81, expressed uncertainty about seeking re-election if former Republican President Donald Trump were not also vying for a second term.

Biden emphasized the importance of not letting Trump win and highlighted the concerns raised by former Republican lawmaker Liz Cheney about the potential risks of a second Trump presidency, warning against the United States “sleepwalking into dictatorship.”

Biden praised Cheney’s “powerful voice” and referred to articles in major media outlets, including the Atlantic, Washington Post, and New York Times, outlining perceived threats associated with a second Trump term.

The president also drew parallels between Trump’s campaign rhetoric and extreme language used in Germany during the 1930s, particularly pointing out Trump’s derogatory terms for opponents as reminiscent of historical trends.

During an earlier fundraiser in Boston, Biden expressed concerns about Trump’s overt language and stated, “Trump’s not even hiding the ball anymore. He’s telling us what he’s going to do. He’s making no bones about it.”

Despite Biden’s victory over Trump in the 2020 election, which the former president refuses to accept, Trump currently holds a narrow lead in opinion polls, despite facing multiple criminal trials, including one for election subversion.

The issue of Biden’s age remains a concern for voters, with some Democrats calling for him to step aside in favor of a new candidate. In response to Biden’s comments, Trump labeled Biden as the “real dictator” in a post on his conservative Truth Social network.
