NEW DEHLI: India had to make alterations to their squad for the upcoming ODI series against the Proteas.

Due to a family medical emergency, Deepak Chahar withdrew, prompting India to designate Akash Deep as his replacement. Furthermore, Mohammed Shami, the leading wicket-taker at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, won’t be playing due to fitness concerns, having not received clearance from the BCCI Medical Team.

Following the first ODI in Johannesburg on December 17, Shreyas Iyer will transition to the Test squad, foregoing participation in the second and third ODIs to concentrate on an inter-squad game.

The coaching staff, including head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T. Dilip, will continue with the Test squad, overseeing preparations for the rest of the tour.

India aims to maintain their winning streak, led by stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who guided them to a comprehensive victory in the second T20I in Johannesburg.

The series will comprise a three-match ODI series, followed by two pivotal Tests as part of the World Test Championship 2023-25.

India’s updated ODI squad includes Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Tilak Varma, Rajat Patidar, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (C)(wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, and Akash Deep.
