LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday filed petitions at four registries of the Supreme Court (SC) seeking registration of a First Information Report (FIR) of the Wazirabad attack on party chief Imran Khan.

The PTI has also filed petitions at SC’s Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta registries, seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention to probe the alleged torture of Senator Azam Swati and the death of senior journalist Arshad Sharif.

At the SC’s Lahore registry, the petition was filed by former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Usman Buzdar and other parliamentarians.

The petition pleaded to constitute a judicial commission to probe the matter.

Speaking to the media, Qureshi said that the petitions had been filed at SC’s Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad  Peshawar and Quetta registries. He said the Supreme Court has been requested to constitute a judicial commission to probe the assassination attempt on Imran Khan, the alleged refusal to register an FIR of the incident. He hoped that the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) would consider his party’s pleas.

At the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry, two applications were submitted by 26 lawmakers of the PTI.

A similar petition was also submitted at the Peshawar registry by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Deputy Speaker Mehmood Jan, Shaukat Yousufzai, Atif Khan, Kamran Bangish, Dr Amjad and Senator Usman Tarkai. An FIR of a gun attack on Imran Khan during PTI’s long march has been at the Wazirabad City Police Station on the directive of the Supreme Court.
