RAWALPINDI: A special prayer for rain, known as “Salat al-Istisqaa,” was offered today (Monday) by the Agriculture Department (Extension) in the Rawalpindi Division, particularly for the better cultivation of crops, especially wheat.

After the prayer, participants fervently prayed for rainfall, seeking Allah’s mercy for blessed precipitation. Addressing the gathering, Syed Shahid Iftikhar Bukhari, the Director of Agriculture Rawalpindi Division, expressed concerns about the potential reduction in wheat production due to the lack of rainfall.

He emphasized the critical need for rain at this time, highlighting that no significant precipitation has occurred since November 9, posing a threat to the successful cultivation of winter crops.

Bukhari further explained that, given the absence of rain, there is an increased risk of reduced yield in wheat production this season. He urged the public to pray earnestly for rainfall, acknowledging its essential role in ensuring a successful harvest.

As part of this initiative, prayer gatherings for rain were organized at various tehsil levels across the Rawalpindi Division. In Rawalpindi alone, 35 such prayer gatherings took place. Bukhari appealed to the general public to join in special prayers, seeking Allah’s blessings for much-needed rainfall.

He also encouraged farmers to adhere to the recommendations and guidelines provided by the Agriculture Extension Department to enhance wheat production for domestic consumption and potential export, contributing to the country’s economic growth.
