A Person Killed, others Injured in US High School Shooting

WASHINGTON:  At least one person was killed and several others wounded in a shooting at Perry High School in Iowa state of the US on Thursday morning, said security officials.

According to multiple law enforcement sources, the suspected shooter is also dead due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dallas County, Iowa, officials have claimed to secure the crime scene. Two patients were shifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center; however, their condition is unknown.

Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante during a press briefing said an active shooting incident was reported at approximately 7:37 a.m. local time.

He said an officer responded to the school, soon after the incident and found multiple gunshot victims. The official added it is unclear at this time how many have been injured.

Infante said there is no further danger to the public and the community is safe.

A Department of Justice spokesperson told media that the U.S. attorney general has been briefed on the incident.

President Joe Biden monitoring the shooting Case

The White House also that President Joe Biden is monitoring the shooting case scenario.  White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressing sympathy for the families of the victims said it is another act of senseless gun violence.

According to the US Census Bureau. Perry town is about 40 miles northwest of Des Moines and has a population of about 8,000. The Perry Community School District comprised of the high school, a middle school and an elementary school — serves about 1,800 students.

According to the district’s calendar Thursday was scheduled to be the first day of classes for the new semester.  Classes at Perry High School have been canceled due to the tragic incident.

It is pertinent to mention that more than 80 school shootings reported in the United States last year more than in any year.
