GAZA: The health ministry in Gaza on Friday said that Israel’s war on the besieged enclave has killed around 29,514 Palestinians mostly women and children.

In a statement, the ministry said that more than 100 people died while 160 injured in the last 24 hours.

The statement said overall 69,616 people have been wounded since the war erupted on October 7.

“Many people are still trapped under rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” it said.

According to Palestinian health authorities Israel, flouting the provisional ruling of the International Court of Justice continues its military offensive on Gaza

The World Bank has said Gaza’s economy reduced by more than 80 percent in the fourth quarter of last year due to Israeli attacks.

In a report, the bank said the Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave has caused massive loss of life and the effects of the conflict on the Palestinian economy have been far-reaching.

Palestinian economy experiencing largest shocks

It said the Palestinian economy experienced one of the largest shocks recorded in recent economic history since the beginning of the war. According to the report almost all economic activity in Gaza has been stopped.

Earlier, the United Nations had warned against the dire humanitarian catastrophe faced by the people in Gaza saying that majority of Palestinians lack access to drinking water.

Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, echoing calls from humanitarian workers said urgent action is needed to address the public health catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.

The United States on Tuesday again vetoed a UN Security Council resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, even as President Joe Biden faced pressure to withdraw support for Israel.

The United States’s ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, while advocating an alternate resolution drafted by the US said “proceeding with a vote today was wishful and irresponsible… we cannot support a resolution that would put sensitive negotiations in jeopardy.”

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva while strongly criticizing Israel for its actions in the besieged Gaza Strip, had accused the country of perpetrating “genocide” against innocent civilians and drawing comparisons to Adolf Hitler’s campaign against Jews during World War II.
