Ethiopian Ambassador Discusses Trade Cooperation with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce

ISLAMABAD: H.E. Jemal Beker Abdula, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Pakistan, recently visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation between the trade bodies of Ethiopia and Pakistan.

Warmly welcomed by ICCI President H.E. Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari and other chamber officials, Ambassador Abdula engaged in detailed discussions regarding the promotion of business and trade relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, Ambassador Abdula emphasized Ethiopia’s pivotal role in the “Look Africa and Engage Africa” policy, particularly highlighting the successful operations of Ethiopian Airlines in Karachi. He expressed intentions to expand the airline’s operations to Islamabad and Lahore in response to the overwhelming positive response received.

Furthermore, Ambassador Abdula underscored efforts to strengthen people-to-people and business-to-business ties, citing recent initiatives such as organizing trade delegations between Ethiopia and Pakistan. He reiterated the Ethiopian Embassy’s commitment to economic diplomacy as a means to foster grassroots-level connections between the two nations.

 

In response, President Bakhtawari commended Ambassador Abdula’s efforts in bridging the gap between the people of Ethiopia and Pakistan and pledged full support for mobilizing another trade delegation to Ethiopia later this year.
