SAN FRANCISCO: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman publicly apologized to Scarlett Johansson on Tuesday following her expression of being “shocked” by the resemblance of a new synthetic voice released by the ChatGPT-maker that sounds eerily similar.
The concern arose over “Sky,” one of the voices unveiled alongside OpenAI’s latest GPT-4o AI technology, noted for its heightened humanlike capabilities.
During demonstrations, Sky showcased a range of conversational abilities, including humor and flirtation, setting it apart from conventional chatbots. However, the voice’s uncanny resemblance to Johansson’s portrayal of an AI character in the 2013 film “Her” raised eyebrows.
Altman had previously cited “Her” as influential in shaping his vision for AI interactions, despite the movie’s cautionary narrative about human-AI relationships.
