Bollywood Stars Who Lost and Won in Elections in India

NEW DELHI: Many Bollywood stars are in the spotlight in this year’s elections in India. Some have won their seats, while others have lost. Some of these well-known actors are participating in elections for the first time, while others are experienced candidates running for their second or third time.

Actress-turned-politician Hema Malini won the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura constituency, defeating Congress candidate Mukesh by a huge margin of 2,93,407 votes. This is her third consecutive term from Mathura, making it a hat-trick of wins. She previously won in 2014 and 2019.

The renowned actor Shatrughan Sinha contested from Asansol in West Bengal on a Trinamool Congress ticket and won by 59,564 votes. His closest rival was BJP candidate Surinderjit Singh Ahluwalia.

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut made her first entry into parliamentary politics by winning the Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh on a BJP ticket. Congress candidate Vikram Aditya Singh came second. After her victory, Kangana thanked her constituents in a video on her official X page.

Actor and BJP candidate Manoj Tiwari contested from the Northeast Delhi Lok Sabha seat against Congress’s Kanhaiya Kumar. According to unofficial results, Manoj Tiwari has won by a margin of one lakh votes.

Actress turned politician Smriti Irani is one of the most high-profile defeats in Amethi. Irani, who had defeated Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 elections, lost to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma by a big margin of 1,67,196 votes.
