UK Elections: Keir Starmer to be New PM as Sunak Accepts Defeat

LONDON: Labour party has won the UK general elections and Keir Starmer will be the new prime minister of the country. Labour is likely to win 410 seats, with the Conservatives on 144. After winning his seat in Holborn and St Pancras, Keir Starmer says “the change begins right here and it is time for us to deliver”.

In the highest-profile Conservative losses so far, Penny Mordaunt and Defence Secretary Grant Shapps lose to Labour.  Reform UK leader Nigel Farage also becomes an MP for the first time, winning Clacton, while the party’s Lee Anderson and Richard Tice also win their seats.

However, Labour’s Jon Ashworth loses to an independent while ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn wins Islington North as an independent candidate.

Similarly, George Galloway of the Workers Party loses the seat he won earlier this year, Carla Denyer wins for the Green Party in Bristol Central.

Sunak Accepts Defeat in UK General Election

British leader Rishi Sunak has conceded defeat to Keir Starmer’s main opposition Labour party in the UK general election, adding, “I take responsibility for the loss”. The former Prime Minister said that today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner with goodwill on all sides.
