WASHINGTON: The world is preparing for a spectacular celestial event this month as the planet will experience a double meteor shower. On July 30, the night sky will be brilliantly illuminated by two annual meteor showers occurring at the same time: the Alpha Capricornids and the Delta Aquarids. This rare event will provide stargazers with a unique opportunity to witness a stunning display of shooting stars.

The southern sky will be the stage for this celestial show, making it a mesmerizing sight for those in the Southern Hemisphere. However, observers in the southern latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere will also be able to see the meteor showers. According to experts, differentiating the shooting stars from constellations may be challenging. The meteors are expected to radiate from various celestial figures such as Orion, Perseus, and Gemini, creating a fascinating mixture of lights in the sky. Each shooting star will add its unique brilliance to the cosmic display.

The night will commence with the spectacular Southern Delta Aquariid meteor shower, which is anticipated to be more grandiose compared to the Alpha Capricornids. The Aquariids are believed to be remnants of the comet 96P Machholz and could produce nearly 25 shooting stars per hour if the sky is clear.

For the best viewing experience, look towards the southeast region of the sky where the constellation Aquarius is located. If Aquarius is difficult to spot, try locating nearby constellations such as Capricornus, Aquila, or Pisces. Finding a dark spot away from city lights will enhance your ability to enjoy this celestial event.
