ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have conducted a successful raid in Karachi, seizing a huge cache of unregistered and expired medicines belonging to foreign companies.
The operation, which took place in Malir, resulted in the recovery of medicines, shampoos, and cosmetics items worth approximately Rs15 million. According to an FIA spokesperson, the raid was carried out following reports of illegal online sales of these items, with Anup Kumar identified as a key figure in the illicit trade.
Anup Kumar, alleged to be involved in the distribution of unregistered and expired products through online platforms, was apprehended during the raid. It was disclosed that Anup Kumar worked as a supervisor while the online store’s ownership is attributed to Deepak Kumar, presently residing in Dubai.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against both Anup and Deepak Kumar, with efforts underway to apprehend additional suspects involved in the illicit operation.
This crackdown follows a similar enforcement action by the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad earlier this year. In May, the agency arrested two persons accused of selling counterfeit and unregistered medicines from a medical store located in the Diplomatic Enclave of Islamabad.
The spokesperson further clarified that the arrests in Islamabad were part of ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of fake medicines in the country. During the raid in the capital city, substantial quantities of counterfeit drugs were confiscated, highlighting the severity of the issue.
