GAZA: At least 71 Palestinians have been killed and over 289 others injured in an Israeli attack targeting displaced persons’ camps in southern Gaza.

Health Ministry in a statement on Saturday updated the toll of the horrific occupation Israeli bombardment at the Al Mawasi camp.

The Ministry in Gaza had said that the bodies of 20 Palestinians and over 90 wounded were received at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis after the Israeli bombing of the Al Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

Earlier, Israel declared Al-Mawasi, declared as one of the safe zones after it ordered civilians to evacuate to other parts of the Gaza Strip.

The ministry strongly condemned the brutal massacre by the occupation forces. It said 71 people were killed and at least 289 injured, with more victims yet to be found. The Israeli military said it was looking into the bombing incident.

After the strikes, ambulances rushed casualties to the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, the Kuwaiti hospital in Rafah and other nearby medical facilities.

Gaza’s civil defence agency said ongoing shelling had stopped its teams from reaching victims in the tent city where tens of thousands have taken refuge.

“There are still many bodies of martyrs scattered in the streets, under the rubble and around the tents of the displaced that cannot be reached due to the heavy shelling of the occupation (Israeli army) that targeted places and tents in the in Al-Mawasi,” said civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal.

According to the UN Palestinian relief agency, UNRWA, up to 1.5 million people may be in the whole Al-Mawasi district.

Head of the Kuwait field hospital, Suhaib Al-Hams called the attack “a real massacre”. He said there were many acute injuries including amputations and lacerations of internal organs. He said a real disaster is occurring now amid the collapse of the Gaza healthcare system.

Meanwhile, Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigades has said its fighters destroyed several Israeli military vehicles in Gaza’s south. According to a statement from the Al-Qassam Brigades, its fighters entrapped a convoy of tanks into a tight ambush and destroyed three Merkava tanks with 105 shells near the Abu Dhar Al-Ghafari Mosque, in the south of Gaza Strip.

“Armed clashes are still ongoing,” it added.

According to the Gaza health ministry, Israel’s relentless bombardment has killed at least 38,443 Palestinians mostly women and children and wounded 88,295 in the besieged Palestinian enclave. It says more than 10,000 are estimated to be buried under the debris while more than 9,500 were abducted by Tel Aviv.
