CALIFORNIA: Meta-owned messaging service, WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to share files, including videos, photos, documents, and other media, with nearby smartphones without internet.
This feature is similar to Apple’s AirDrop and was first spotted in WhatsApp’s Android beta version in April 2024. Now, this file-sharing feature, named ‘Nearby Share,’ is being tested in the iOS beta version. It’s particularly useful for users without internet access in remote areas or those with poor internet coverage.
This feature enables sharing files with loved ones or professional contacts without worrying about internet connectivity. The feature will operate differently on iPhones and Android devices.
