ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)’s National Emergencies Operation Center has issued a high-level flash flood warning in Balochistan and southwest of Punjab due to the latest hydrometeorological conditions.
The hills and local streams of Zhob, Kalat, Nasirabad and Sibbi divisions of Balochistan are likely to experience high to very high levels of flash flooding which may cause damage to infrastructure. Similarly, the hill torrents and local streams of D.G. Khan in southwestern Punjab are likely to experience high to very high levels of flash flooding, a news release said.
It said that all villages and towns or settlements near streams, especially along the floodplain, can be affected by increased water flows. It said the catchment areas of the Kabul River and its tributaries have received heavy rainfall, which will likely cause medium to high floods in Nowshera as well as in the tributaries of River Kabul.

“Medium to high flows in Nowshera may inundate low-lying areas and may cause damage to the infrastructure. The GLOF event in Chitral will also increase flows in the Panjkora River and ultimately in the Kabul River,” it said.
The NDMA has issued directives to all relevant departments to take necessary precautionary measures to mitigate the possible effects of flooding and extreme weather.
The population at flood risk is advised to avoid flood waters and find a safe location away from flood-prone areas
